(OLD) Warhammer 40,000:The App

I have given this app a try in the beta period and was charged my first month sub this week. A couple of items I like: the list building is really easy. All the data sheets being available in one spot instead of having to have my codex with me is nice. A few things that need fixed: The Death Guard codex just released and for the entire month the company descriptions are not even filled out. You can select Poxmongers, Harbingers etc. but there is zero information in the description boxes. When reviewing some data sheets, mostly in the space marine codex while in your army list, at a certain scroll point the app always closes. There is no where in the app and I could not find a place on line to turn in a support ticket for a bug or problem. And you expect me to spend $3 month on this after I already purchased the codex. This should at least still be free. My army lists always disappear after an “update”. The access to the core rules is a mess. The rules are not all there. Really? GW needs to ask for a refund for who ever built this app. I feel like I am part of a bad Kickstarter at this point. I will give it one more month then cancel my subscription if a these problems are not fixed. I am not paying $3 a month for crap.

Now this app, from how it is, is actually pretty solid in my opinion. The price is steep for what Is basically the only useful part of the app for the moment but it provides a lot of content. Having access to every rule side of a codex from 8th and psychic awaking book for 5 dollars is pretty good, even though that has issues on its own. No army builder yet which is probably the most important part of this app. However, the issues are what make me want to give this app a one star review. Even though I’m a subscriber, the app won’t recognize me as a subscriber and won’t let me have access to the content I subscribed too. Another issue I’m having with the app is that everything is in alphabetical order. At first this sounds great until you get to something like stratagems from let’s say, psychic awakening: Saga of the Beast. Everything is in alphabetical order for stratagems and they bunch it all up together, meaning it’s a mess to sort through things. I would much rather have it separated by army, like space wolves and orks THEN stratagems. This also applies to the units but I find it less of a issue, just wished they filtered it by their unit role at least. Honestly, this would be a 2.5 but if I had to pick between 2 or 3, I would pick 3. App has so much potential and is getting fixed, but that shouldn’t stop mean it doesn’t get a bad review for the state it’s currently in.

Like many others have mentioned I am caught in the subscription loop where, despite logging in with the new “My Warhammer” account, it doesn’t recognise my subscription or allow me to restore the purchase. I tried signing out and back in, deleting and re-downloading the app, and unsubscribing and re-subscribing: all to no avail. This is more pathetic than just putting an app out in pre-beta that is fundamentally broken. They pulled people off from their pre-existing Azyr app (a product people were already paying for) to work on this mess. Azyr hasn’t been updated for 5 months. That’s how they treat their existing customers. This also shows that their development team is likely too small and over worked. In addition Games Workshop is quintessentially cheap. They likely wouldn’t offer developers competent enough for a project like this enough for it to actually be worth them taking the job. If they were less miserly they could hire more competent people on a decent salary to support both apps and only publish them when they are tested and ready. There was clearly 0 testing from the developers because they would have caught this immediately or they knew and were told by higher ups to publish it regardless. Class. They like to pretend they’re still a small company working out of a garage, but they have plenty to throw around. Typical Games Workshop. Investors aren’t going to continue to tolerate this level of incompetence. In the end. Don’t subscribe. It’s broken.
