Jesus Calling Devotional

Ever since they decided to get a programmer to reprogram the app so they could start charging fees, the app has not worked for those who signed up for the original fee. The app tries to constantly make you upgrade to get your content and consistently locks you out. This has been going on since October 2023. When you send them an email to let them know the app is broken, it goes for days or weeks before it’s fixed, in addition they don’t ever respond to you. When your daily reading is locked out and you can’t access it you realize just how much you depend on it. It seems to me they either don’t really care or they would have the program we fix it or they are not using it themselves so they have no idea it’s constantly broken. Ever since October 2023 the app has been broken at least 5 times and each time for no less than a week, so I guess that adds up to over a month. As of March 1st 2024 it was broken again and not fixed until March 7. I would suggest Haper get a new programmer. Not only should this not be happening, it’s inexcusable for it to be happening on such a regular basis. It comes down to who ever is in charge not being on top of it, pure sloppiness and disregard. A Jesus calling app developer sent me a message and said they had resolved the issue and please send follow up to their email. At this point I’d rather warn people that the app is broken again, when you open it this morning it says Jan 1st …. They don’t have competent developers… since they changed to a monthly fee it is constantly broken! Not recommended! If you sign up you’ll just be incredibly frustrated. Look for a different source.

I bought the original Jesus Calling app several years ago and have loved reading it every day. It has spoken to me personally in ways that I can’t explain. It’s like each day is written just for my needs in mind! I really miss being able to access it on my new iphone11. I have emailed Harper Collins regarding this several times and have tried all of their suggestions: restarting my phone, removing and reinstalling the app, restoring my purchase, updating the app, starting the app with the audio, etc., to no avail. I still only get the one-week trial version of the app and am very discouraged and disappointed! I miss being able to read Jesus Calling every day. It has been a huge blessing in my life and I have told many, many friends to buy the app themselves over the years. It is a gem. I wish someone could help me get my original purchase back onto my new phone. This is my second review. I am disgusted! I have contacted Harper Collins several times over the past 4 months about not being able to access my original Jesus Calling purchase. I still cannot access Jesus Calling and am very angry now for being betrayed. The “restore purchase” button does not work.

This devotional is not consistently available to Legacy users. We have appreciated Jesus Calling digital devotional for years. Sold as a once in a lifetime purchase we have enjoyed and purchased it as a gift for many others. Now we can’t use it. I am baffled that Harper Collins is unable to treat the Legacy users consistently. The app will work as promised for short periods of time at the end of which the demand for additional subscription is made to continue use. Then miraculously the app will work again for a while. This sequence recently repeated, working well for the last half of the month of April 2024 until May 1, now their is a demand for subscription to continue. If it is Harper Collins intention to squeeze all legacy users to abandon their app purchase and get on board with the new subscription model I wish they would state that. This inconsistent treatment makes them look incompetent and leaves us legacy folks frustrated. I have attempted to get resolution from Harper Collins both by email and phone calls. If I receive a response the promise of help or callbacks drifts down a black hole somewhere, follow through is not an attribute of their customer service teams. I gave a rating of 3 stars as an average of my experience, 5 stars for the content of the product and 1 star for the effectiveness of communication and follow through of Harper Collins. My wife and I are in our 70’s and desire to use the Jesus Calling app we purchased so long ago.
