I use this app a great deal, at least once a week, most the time way more. With social media I find people from all over the world posting content from other countries. People from other countries sending messages in their native language. I come across something written in another language I’m not familiar with. This app helps me a lot, without spending so much time trying to learn the languages. This app helps me figure things out quickly, and move on. I’ve actually written long letters in French to some people. They seem to understand what I’m wiring. No one ever tells me I miss spelled anything. And no one ever tells me I used the wrong word, or said something wrong. I don’t even know what I’m doing. Then when the people write me back, this app helps me figure out what they wrote me. This app translates every word I want to say, or read. I copy paste away in both directions; depending on whether I want to compose, or read in another language. It takes a little thinking sometimes, this app does most the work. Try this app out to close the communication gap with different languages.

Ugh! Make sure you really read through everything when it gives you the option of a free trial because this app will sign you up for the entire year if you don’t. I made the mistake of trying this app because my youngest son was wanting to play with another boy from school, but the mother of the kid didn’t speak English. I thought maybe this would be faster and easier to use, but you have to pay to use anything at all or do a free trial. I clicked the free trial and then had to rush to work, so I forgot to take it right back off. It’s right before Christmas and I just got a notification that I apparently paid for something that was over $70 freakin dollars! I don’t recall reading anything that said if you click the free trial you’ll be forced to pay for a YEARLY subscription to something I will never need or use again. That just seems really sketchy and wrong. I have two kiddos and work as a waitress, so I don’t have a lot of extra money laying around and now I have to go through the process of getting a refund and waiting for the money to come back to me before I can get more gifts for my family. With the post office here being so behind, I didn’t have the time to wait. I only used the app one time and it didn’t help that situation anyway. It’s free to use google translate, so there is no actual need for me to use this and I was definitely unaware that I had somehow signed up for a yearly subscription and am not willing to pay that much for any app. That’s just not ok at all. 😡

Edit: questionable billing practices. I know I signed up for the monthly subscription, yet when I canceled the app just now it claims I signed up for $50 for one year. I will be taking that complaint to the App Store for a refund. Yes, on the cancellation page, is a one year subscription it’s also available for just $20. Why am I charged $50? Something is Sketchy here. As this kind of complaint seems common I suspect after a while the App Store will punish the developer in some way. As to the effectiveness of the app, it is not so great. Read on . Using it translate to folks during a trip overseas to Spain resulted in some misunderstandings and laughter. It was better than nothing, but not better than google translate. It’s ability to do text recognition and translate say a menu is a nice capability that again, is better than nothing , but it cannot handle if the text is tilted relative to the image, jumbling the lines together. It also seemed to miss a lot of the words leaving them in Spanish . Finally there was no attempt to parse separate lines and represent the translation as separate lines to the user, they all just ran into one another. That capability seems pretty basic to implement. Still that feature was better than not having it at all, so two stars.... until I saw what happened with the billing . Not worth paying for at all in my opinion and with that billing glitch they have problems in how they sign ppl up for subscription too.
